Warning – Nominal Ledger Journal Inter-Period

Warning - Nominal Ledger Journal Inter-Period

Appears if making a Nominal Ledger Journal Entry to the Sales Ledger period or Purchase Ledger period and the ledger period is ahead of the Nominal Ledger period.

Because… During Period-End processing, it is likely to be necessary to roll the Sales Ledger period, Purchase Ledger period and Nominal Ledger period at different times to accommodate your normal business process. If a Nominal Ledger journal including entries to the Sales Ledger and or Purchase Ledger is posted during this transition, all entries must be posted to the most advanced period and this form warns that this will happen.

Therefore… If the Nominal Journal is completed, it will be posted to the most advanced accounting period and will be included in YTD enquiries and reports only when the Nominal Ledger period is advanced.

Actions… Click No to cancel the entry and return to the Journal Entry form which will remain in ‘current period‘ mode.

Click Yes to continue the entry and return to the Journal Entry form which will change to ‘future period‘ mode. The journal will be posted to the relevant future period whatever changes are subsequently made to the journal entry details. A further warning form will display to advise of the ledger period settings, to which period the journal will be posted and that entries to the Purchase Ledger or Sales Ledger in this journal will not be possible (depending on whether the entry which initiated this warning was to the Sales Ledger or Purchase Ledger respectively), e.g.
