File Menu – Stationery Design – How Do I?

Select an Object?

Either:
Click Menus > View > Report Controls Toolbar to open the toolbar on the screen, or;
Click Report Controls button on toolbar – see Stationery Design – Toolbars.
Click on the Arrow symbol (Selection Tool) – as you point to each symbol on the toolbar a label will appear showing the name of the control.
Click on the object – black dots, called Handles, will appear at each corner and, in the case of fields and shapes, halfway along each side.

Move an Object?

Select an object or group of objects.
Holding down the Left Mouse button, drag the object to a new location on the Design Form.

Resize an Object?

Either: Select an Object.
Using the mouse, point to one of the Handles.
Holding down the Left Mouse button drag the Handle until theobject is the required size and shape.
Or: Select an object.
Click Menus > Format> Size.

Select more than one Object?

This will enable you to move and/or resize several objects at once.

Either: Open Report Control Toolbar.
Click Selection Tool.
Point to required object.
Click first object to be selected.
Holding down the shift key, click the next object.
Repeat as required.

Or; if the objects are near each other on the Design Form
Open Report Control Toolbar.
Click the Selection Tool.
Click on an empty space adjacent to the objects.
Holding the Left Hand Mouse button drag around the objects.
An “elastic box” – called a marquee – will appear around the required objects.
Drag and drop the objects as required.

Once you have selected objects you can then Group them to behave as a single object.

Click Menus > Format > Group
The selected objects will behave as is if they are a single object until you select the grouped objects and click Ungroup on the Format menu.

Add and Edit Text Objects?

To add text:
Either:

Click Menus > View > Report Controls Toolbar to open the toolbar on the screen, or;
Click the Report Controls button on toolbar – see Stationery Design – Toolbars.
Point to the Label Tool – as you point to each symbol on the toolbar a label will appear showing the name of the control.
Click the Label Tool.
Point to an unoccupied area on the Design Form and click.
Start typing text as required – this will create the Text object.

To edit text:
Click the Text object.
Highlight text.
Edit using Windows editing tools.

Add and Edit Data Environment Field Objects?

To add Fields:
Either:
Click Menus > View > Data Environment to open the data environment on the screen, or;
Click the Data Environment button on toolbar – see Stationery Design – Toolbars.
Point to the Field Tool – as you point to each symbol on the toolbar a label will appear showing the name of the control.
Click the Field Tool.
Point to an unoccupied area on the Design Form.
Click on the area.

To edit Fields:
Double click on the required field.

Add and Edit Lines?

To add Lines:
Either:
Click Menus > View > Report Controls Toolbar to open the toolbar on the screen, or;
Click Report Controls button on toolbar – see Stationery Design – Toolbars.
Point to the Line Tool – as you point to each symbol on the toolbar a label will appear showing the name of the control.
Click the Line Tool.
Point to an unoccupied area on the Design Form.
Click to start the line and drag from the required starting position to determine the line’s orientation and length.

To edit Lines:
Click on the line.
The thickness of a line can be changed by selecting it and choosing Pen from the Format menu.
Drag the Handles at either end to change the line length and orientation as required.

Add, Edit & Format Shapes?

To Add Shapes:
Either:
Click Menus > View > Report Controls Toolbar to open the toolbar on the screen, or;
Click Report Controls button on toolbar – see Stationery Design – Toolbars.
Point to the Rectangle or Rounded Rectangle Tool – as you point to each symbol on the toolbar a label will appear showing the name of the control.
Click the Shape Tool.
Point to an unoccupied area on the design form.
Click to start the shape and drag from the required starting position to determine the relative lengths of its sides.

To Edit Shapes:
Double click required shape.
Change as required.

To Fill a Shape with a background colour
Select a shape object
Click Menus > Format > Fill
Select required pattern and colour from the list displayed

To change the Line Style:
Select a shape object
Click Menus > Format > Pen
Select required line style.

Insert Picture Objects?

Either: Click Menus > View > Report Controls Toolbar to open the toolbar on the screen, or;
Click Report Controls button on toolbar – see Stationery Design – Toolbars.
Point to the Picture Tool – as you point to each symbol on the toolbar a label will appear showing the name of the control.
Click the Picture Tool.
Point to an unoccupied area on the Design Form.
Click.
Open the file containing the image.
Move and size as required.

Align Objects Relative to each other?

Either: Select a group of objects.
Click Menus > Format > Align.
Click as required to align the edges or centres of the selected objects.

Or:
Select a group of objects
Either:
Click Menus > View > Layout Toolbar to open the toolbar on the screen, or;
Click Layout button on Toolbar – see Stationery Design – Toolbars.

Colour Text and Backgrounds?

Either: Click Menus > View > Colour Palette Toolbar to open the toolbar on the screen, or;
Click Colour Palette button on toolbar – see Stationery Design – Toolbars.

To change Text colour:
Select an object.
Click button labeled ‘T’ on the toolbar.
Click Colour required on the Palette.
Object Text will change colour.

To change the Background colour:
Select an object.
Click button labeled with a paint tin logo on the Toolbar.
Click Colour required on the Palette.
Object background will change colour.

Adjust Spacing between Objects?

Either: Select a group of objects.
Click Menus > Format > Vertical Spacing.
Click Menus > Format > Horizontal Spacing.
Click as required to space the objects.

Or:
Either:
Click Menus > View > Layout Toolbar to open the toolbar on the screen, or;
Click Layout button on toolbar – see Stationery Design – Toolbars
Select a group of objects.
Point to the Horizontal/Vertical Spacing Tool – as you point to each symbol on the toolbar a label will appear showing the name of the control.
Click the Tool to space the objects.

Bring an Object to the Front or send it to the Back of a Group of Objects?

Either: Click Menus > View > Layout Toolbar to open the toolbar on the screen, or;
Click Layout button on toolbar – see Stationery Design – Toolbars
Point to the Send to Front/Back Tool – as you point to each symbol on the toolbar a label will appear showing the name of the control.
Click on an object.

Or:
Select an object.
Click Menus > Format > Bring to Front/ Send to Back as required.

Change the Grid Size on the Report Design Screen?

Click Menus > Format > Set Grid Scale.
Set to required size.

Control the Position of Objects on the Grid?

Click Menus > Format > Snap to Grid.
This will automatically align the edges of objects with gridlines as they are being created or moved.

Change the Format and Position of Text?

To change the Text Font within objects:
Select an object or a group of objects.
Click Menus > Format > Font.

To align text within an object:
Select an object or a group of objects.
Click Menus > Format > Text Alignment.
Select Left, Centre or Right alignment.
Note that this is different to Align: Align affects an object’s alignment in relation to other objects or the whole document while Text Alignment affects only the current selection.

Configure a Printer specific to a document design ?

With the appropriate document open in stationery design, from the main menu select Report > Printer Environment and ensure that this option is ticked.
Then, from the main menu select File > Page Setup
Configure the desired Printer settings in the Page Setup form that appears
These settings will be saved with the current document design.
